Since its opening in 1885, Severance Hospital has been serving national health and leading the medical industry over the past 141 years. We have also devoted significant effort to advancing medical care and strengthening our global competitiveness throughout our long history of continuous change and innovation

To push back the frontiers of robotic surgery, we aimed at achieving sustained growth in clinical, research, education and industry while building state-of-the-art infrastructure. In 2005, we became the first in Korea to introduce robotic surgery and currently have 12 surgical robots, including 5 da Vinci SP systems and one domestically developed Revo‑i system, which is the largest number in Korea, being used in 17 surgical specialties.

In April 2026, Severance Hospital became the first single institution in the world to reach 50,000 robotic surgery cases. In July 2026, the hospital also achieved 10,000 da Vinci SP surgery cases, further strengthening its leadership in single-port robotic surgery. In addition, Severance Hospital continues to build its global reputation through excellence in both clinical care and academic research. According to data published in the Journal of Robotic Surgery, Yonsei University published 196 robotic surgery-related papers over the past decade, ranking first in the world in research output, with citations also among the highest globally. We are now taking another step forward to become a global hub for robotic surgery, extending our leadership beyond Asia

We will continue to embrace the challenges and opportunities of the Fourth Industrial Revolution in healthcare.
